kb3055999, kb3068708, kb3061421 and kb3061468: they "refuse" to install (correctly). Should I hide them all?

If they are not important to install Windows 10, I guess they can all be hidden, am I right?

Interestingly, kb3055999 and kb3068708 are offered as "important", but the Windows Update window show them as "recommended".

I have tried these:

1- using the OS built in Windows Update solution for installing the updates.

2- The "fix it" solution - WindowsUpdateDiag.cab.

3- SFC.exe - found problems but could not correct them.

4- DISM.exe - could not download the necessary files, and suggest me to use the option /sources.

The Windows Update also tried to install them "automatically" (my system is set to install them automatically), "many" times.

It's important to mention that in this computer (my 2nd one - INTEL cpu), the kb3022345 installed correctly with no problem at all (the opposite of my 1st computer - AMD cpu).

Should I hide all those updates?

I shall suggest you to go through the following first:

Stand alone downloads are available for those KBs:

I tried using the stand alone packages: firstly for kb3055999 and then for kb3068708:

1- I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab: it found errors and corrected them.

2- I ran the kb standalone package, and it failed installation.

Hi __arpoador,

According to your description, it seems that the present system files has corrupted. We should ensure the system files are fine.
Please take the following steps to have a troubleshoot.
1.Run the following tool to reset the Windows update components and then run "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" again to fix the crrupted files.
How do I reset Windows Update components?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

If it still cannot be fixed, we can try to fix from an installation media .
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess
Here is a link for reference:
Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947821
If the issue persists, please upload the dism log( C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log) to OneDrive and paste the link here.

2. If the corrupted system files have been fixed, then we can try to install these updates manually to have a check.

Best regards

Thanks, MeipoXu

But it failed too!

June 22nd, 2015 6:22pm

I ran (offline) CHKDSK f: /offlinescanandfix - found no error.

Then, I ran (offline) SFC /scan /offbootdir=f:\ /offwindir=f:\windows - found errors but could not fix

Finally I ran (online) DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:d:\sources /limitaccess - found errors and corrected them

Even though the corruptions were fixed by DISM, installing KB3055999 using the Windows Update application failed!

I repeated the process above, and even though the corruptions were fixed by DISM, installing KB3055999 using the standalone package failed!

So, there's nothing I can do; it's the WUTeam that needs to fix the update.

What else can I do, besides asking for a KB3055999 (and any other) fixed?

Hi -arpoador,

So the present main issue is that only the KB 3055999 won`t be installed, right?

Have you got any error code or error messages when you try to install it manually?
To install this KB, the KB 2919355 should be installed on the machine. It is an optional update.
Here is a link for reference:
Update APN database entry for SaskTel (Canada) in Windows 8.1 and 8
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3055999

We can try to install this KB manually in clean boot environment to isolate a third party conflict issue.

Hi,

My original post is still valid: the 4 KB updates are still not installed, due to error 8007371B (means file corruption), and 2 of them are offered as important, but after failure, these 2 are shown as recommended.

Trying to install them using the standalone package, fails too, but this installer does not tell which is the error code; it just says: some updates were not installed.

There's no conflict with 3rd party hardware or software, because nothing was installed since I updated Win8 Pro to Win8.1 Pro.

I noticed that the Windows Update has tried to install them (automatically) really many times, but without success.

Whenever Windows updates website scans and install any updates or patches, it gets stored on the below location.
%windir%\softwaredistribution\download

Depending upon the updates different folders gets created on the above location.

For clearing the contents of the softwaredistribution folder, try the below commands on the command prompt with administrator privileged.

net stop wuauserv
rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q
net start wuauserv
exit

Hope this helps.

Note : Update your system from windows inbuild update not standalone and must have a good internet connection.

Hi __arpoador,

You have tried to reset the Windows Update components as I suggested before and the dism command has fixed all the corrupted files, right?
Please download the corresponding installation package from the link below and install them again manually to have a check.
KB3055999
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=kb3055999

KB3068708
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=%20kb3068708

KB3061421
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=kb3061421

KB3061468
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=kb3061468

I have checked the four updates, only the KB3068708 is a recommended update, the others are optional.

Hi MeipoXu,

Yes, I have tried to reset the Windows Update Component, as you can see in my OP, where I wrote:

2- The "fix it" solution - WindowsUpdateDiag.cab.

This is the automated solution offered in the page you linked to.

Interestingly, I succeeded using DISM.exe along with /source switch, but I did not use Win8.1 disc, because I haven't any. Instead I used 1 of my 2 Win8 discs (yes, I have one for each of my 2 computers). I used them, and DISM completed the task successfuly. Nonetheless, installing the KB3055999 failed with the same error code: 8007371B.

ADDED: by the way, the catalog links you posted, don't work for me. Believe it or not, but due to my OS localization, they lead to a web page that states that to use the catalog I must use IE6 or above, and give me guide lines to update my browser!

Hi __arpoador,

For the IE issue, please check the "Compatibility View settings" and remove anything related to "Microsoft" then open the link again to have a check.
Considering these updates are "optional", we could hide them temporatily.

Best regards
